Visualization of low-pressure sprays using a mobile phone

 

Abstract:

We present the development of a spray visualization set-up employing shadowgraphy and schlieren imaging with a consumer mobile phone. This has the potential to be an effective, inexpensive method of carrying out initial assessments of a spray system analysis or as an introduction to spray imaging studies for students. We present the design of such a system and show results that include some images and videos captured for the visualization of low-pressure sprays.
